PhD on “Effects of climate change on plant feeding and predatory mites” Cyprus University of Technology
Climate change is affecting the biology, distribution and economic importance of spider mite pests, as well as the effectiveness of biological control with predatory mites. The aim of the project is to develop a thorough understanding of the expected impact of climate change on outbreaks by the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae in the EU. The project includes laboratory work on the effects of temperature on mite biology, field work in Cyprus on species distribution and effectiveness of biological control, and modeling of the future distributions of spider mites predatory mites in the EU. The selected candidate will work closely with collaborators in France and the UK to carry out the experiments.
Qualifications: Candidates are expected to have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from an accredited University in Agricultural Sciences or Ecology or related disciplines. Applicants should be fluent in English. Previous relevant research experience is highly valued.
