Scientific Specialist in Insect Control Research Biology

Syngenta is seeking a Science Specialist in Insect Control Research Biology at their Research Center in Stein, Aargau (Switzerland). As a Science Specialist you will work at the forefront of innovation to deliver sustainable solutions in Crop Protection.
Role Purpose and Accountabilities:
Biology lead in multi-disciplinary research projects in Insect Control
Represent Research Biology function and address biology questions in multi-disciplinary Insect Control research projects in close interaction with colleagues from biology, chemistry, bioscience, product safety, formulation, IP
Develop the biological science plan leading to a biological profile
Ensure appropriate evaluation of compounds according to project needs in laboratory or glasshouse tests and in field trials in close collaboration with Insect Control screening teams, resistance team and field biology team
Establish and interpret biological profiles for project lead compounds and provide assessment on agronomic relevance in agreement with partners from Development and Business
Support the development, enhancement, and marketing of Insect Control products
Conduct studies in laboratory or glasshouse to support the development, enhancement, and marketing of Insect Control products
Lead and coordinate a team of 1-3 research scientists or biologists in a matrix structure
Ensure integration of technical and science based innovations into biological profiling, bring forward own innovation ideas based on entomology/biology/agronomy/biochemistry expertise
Proactive and continued scientific analysis of literature in Crop Protection and Insect Control in particular
Position includes mainly deskwork (>95%) and some very limited lab/greenhouse work. Limited business travel may be required.
Qualifications
Strong research background in applied biology or agronomy (PhD or equivalent knowledge and experience)
Profound knowledge in insect pests behavior, life cycle, and general biology
Good knowledge in plant biology, agronomy, crop protection, biochemistry
Knowledge and interest in chemistry highly advantageous
Proficient English, good German language skills (at least CEF level B2)
Experience in scientific approaches (designing, implementing, analyzing, and evaluating scientific experiments, knowledge access)
Practical experience in laboratory environment, preferably with pests and plants, and/or pesticides
Experience in multi-disciplinary projects and project management
Experience with data storage, reporting, analysis, and visualization tools
