The aim of the Hellenic Entomological Society (HES) is the promotion of the science of Entomology. HES is interested in the proliferation and communication of knowledge concerned with the distribution, ecology, physiology, biology and ethology of insects, mites and other arthropods, mainly of species that are regarded as pests of plants, animals, agricultural products and humans. The Society is also interested in the study of beneficial and mass reared natural enemies, the pests and diseases of these organisms as well as protecting the environment from the non-sustainable use of any agricultural products such as pesticides and other chemical substances. Additionally, HES is seeking collaboration with other research institutions and societies operating nationally or internationally as well as the promotion of their members.
HES publishes the Journal "Entomologia Hellenica" (in English). Aristidis Economopoulos served as the first Editor-in-Chief of the journal in 1983. Subsequent editors included I. Tsitsipis, D. Prophetou-Athanasiadou and M. Savopoulou-Soultani. Entomologia Hellenica is an open access journal which publishes peer-reviewed original papers or reviews on all aspects of Entomology and Acarology. It publishes one volume with two issues per year, and has a world-wide scope.
Membership in the Hellenic Entomological Society will be granted to professional and amateur entomologist after payment of a yearly membership fee.
